Infant and Young Child Nutrition

Stunting is a complex process that occurs during pregnancy until the child’s second birthday (known as “the first 1,000 days”) primarily due inadequate infant and young child feeding and recurrent/chronic illness.

Improving nutritional status of children less than two years of age can be achieved through adequate dietary intake and/or home fortification with micronutrient powders, syrups and/or supplements (i.e., iron). MCHIP conducted operations research to understand factors associated with stunting and to develop innovative programmatic infant and young child nutrition approaches to address stunting in the Middle East.
